Local Houston Spotlight: Piney Point Village

As your Houston real estate agents, we’d like to fill you in on Piney Point Village this week, the next community in our series about the Memorial Villages. Piney Point Village is a city in Harris County, located on the west side of Houston. The village is 2.1 square miles in size.

The city was founded in 1954, when Memorial Villages because a separate municipality from the city of Houston. As of the 2010 census, there were 3,125 people, 1,064 households and 945 families residing inside Piney Point Village, and as of 2010, it was the wealthiest location in Texas by per capita income!

Piney Point Village was first settled in 1824 by John D. Taylor. His house became known as “Piney Point.” A public road from Houston to Piney Point was approved in 1844, and in 1885 it became a station on the Texas Western Railroad. This brought settlement of German farmers to the area. In 1936, state highway maps located the village near several sawmills, and in 1954, it was incorporated.

Like the other Memorial Villages we’ve highlighted in our blog posts, Piney Point Village is serviced by the Memorial Village Police Department, which Piney Point Village jointly operates with Bunker Hill Village and Hunters Creek Village, and the Village Fire Department.

Almost all of the city is served by the Spring Branch Independent School District, with a small portion served by the Houston Independent School District. Memorial Drive Elementary School is within the city boundaries of Piney Point Village and serves all residents in the Spring Branch portion. The Kinkaid School and Saint Francis Episcopal Day School, both private schools, also reside in Piney Point Village.

In the latest HAR data, there were 34 homes for sale in Piney Point Village. The average price of a home is $2,561,747 and average square footage of a home is 6,418. Average rent is $9,750.
